Victoria, please add the before pics from google drive and maybe some other pro shots too?
This lovely home had a generously sized family room that opened into the more formal living room. The openness of the space kept the spaces feeling delineated but yet connected. We wanted this space to feel cohesive to the adjacent living room but with a decidedly more casual, light and bright feel. We achieved this by painting the millwork (bye orange stain) and by also painting the bookcases. We settled on the favorite Alabaster by Sherwin Williams as it had just enough warmth to keep the space feeling cozy and organic.
The most important feature of this room was the art and the bookcase. The art was commissioned by a local fine painter and artist. In fact, we commissioned several pieces from him that made such an impact! Part of our role is to help clients blend their art and photos with new pieces — especially originals. Original art can be found in coffeehouses or art galleries or, as in this case by personal releationships that we have with local artists.
For the bookcases we achieved balance, symmetry and blended our clients personal treasures with some new items that we sourced in town. Bookcases are our favorite things to style during the last phase of any design project. It’s an artistic endeavor! The key is to not overfill the shelves and to keep visual movement bouncing from shelf to shelf. Pet peeve? Books turned backwards. I don’t get it! Let those spines show.
