This space was truly a labor of love. Our clients were seeking a calming primary bathroom that fit their functional needs but also was beautiful and a little fancy (cue the towel warmer and bidet). They wanted a bright and crisp bathroom that felt like a spa and since we LOVE spas,  we jumped right in!

It took roughly 6 months from start to finish to bring this spa-like bathroom to life. Throughout the demolition process, we worked side by side with the contractor, electrician, plumber, glass and stone craftsmen on all the  details. Our clients, both professionals who work from home, were incredibly integral to the process and beyond patient with the disruptions. They are truly super-clients who were decisive, collaborative and trusted us to do what we do best- design!

Before we get into the process and the finished result- let’s look at where the bathroom started!

For this total gut, we first focused on improving the floorplan so that we could design a larger shower that would accommodate two. This meant we eliminated an unused linen closet enabling us to create a luxurious and elegant shower system with rain head, fixed head and handheld components! Of course we added our signature corner leg shaving shelf!

The tile is a mix of materials that balance beauty with everyday function. We used a variegated marble on the walls and more durable porcelain on the floor.  We intentionally wrapped the shower wall tile all the way around to the tub area to create a “visual line” that draws your eye around the space seamlessly.  It also makes the bath area  splash proof for when the couple’s 3 girls jump in for a bubble bath!

We always document the space during the process- it’s the best way to look back and remember all the details and hard work that went into the project!

We placed this gorgeous Kohler freestanding tub on a 45 degree angle to maximize space and to create a visual impact. The pendant above the tub reminded us of an ethereal cloud and makes the area feel calming and of course, a towel warmer ensures toasty exits from the tub.

For the vanity wall we focused on storage and the opportunity to infuse wood and add warmth. We started with this solid wood vanity in a rich warm tone and the 7’ length allows for plenty of drawers/doors. The double sinks allow both of our clients to each have their own areas even on busy mornings. The quartz countertops are durable and look amazing with the stunning polished nickel Kohler faucets. The mirrors are actually medicine cabinets that are recessed into the wall (thank you contractor!) so they keep the countertop clean by hiding all the bottles and even the electric toothbrushes!

A few more design elements that we are so excited about:

  • The custom linen roman shade with a remote!

  • The artwork which brings in a touch of moodiness

  • The water closet which keeps the toilet separate from the rest of the bathroom and which features a bidet, a beautiful wall cabinet, and meaningful artwork of the couple’s honeymoon in Paris (we listen to our clients and try and create through lines of memories)

What would you want in your spa-inspired bathroom?
